EuroMillions Changes to Provide More Massive Jackpots

EuroMillions Changes to Provide More Massive Jackpots

Last Updated: Tuesday 19th May 2020, 10:50 am

Changes to EuroMillions will come into force in September, promising to offer bigger jackpots more often, in addition to huge Europe-wide events to create multiple millionaires and a special raffle just for Irish EuroMillions players that will guarantee ten winners of €5,000 twice a week. The game’s starting jackpot will also grow to €17 million from the current base level of €15 million.

The EuroMillions changes will come into force following the draw on Friday 23rd September 2016, with the first Irish raffle prizes paid out on Tuesday 27th September. There will also be a celebratory Superdraw on Friday 30th September offering a guaranteed jackpot of €130 million. European Millionaire Maker events will happen occasionally throughout the year, with the first taking place at the end of October. The game, into which all ticket holders for that day’s main draw will be entered, will see 25 millionaires made across the nine participating EuroMillions nations.

The draw on Tuesday 27th September will be the first with an extra Lucky Star added into the mix. Players will need to pick two from 12 additional balls after the changes take place as opposed to the 11 currently in play, although the main number pool will remain the same. The odds of winning the EuroMillions jackpot will increase from 1 in 116,531,800 as it currently stands to 1 in 139,838,160, but the chances of winning any prize remain at 1 in 13. The price of a single line will rise to €2.50, but the allocation of funds to the jackpot from ticket sales will increase, meaning the top prize will be able to reach truly exciting amounts at an even faster rate.

Premier Lotteries Ireland CEO, Dermot Griffin, said of the changes to EuroMillions, “The new Ireland only raffle and pan-European changes being made to the main game are designed to deliver even more for our players and good causes in the years to come.”

September’s changes will be the first major tweak of the game since 10th May 2011, when the Tuesday draw was introduced and the number of Lucky Stars rose from nine to 11.
