Cork Workplace Sees Second EuroMillions Syndicate Win in Two Years

Last Updated: Thursday 27th June 2019, 10:32 am

A syndicate of workers in Cork have collected €500,000 in EuroMillions winnings, less than two years after colleagues from the same workplace also won a EuroMillions prize. The syndicate of nine, from Barry Group Wholesalers in Mallow, won in the draw on Tuesday 11th June, bringing the total number of lottery winners in the company to nearly 30.

Though they did not win a prize from the main draw, the syndicate matched all five numbers in EuroMillions Plus, winning the top prize of €500,000. The winning numbers for EuroMillions Plus on 11th June were 22, 24, 31, 35 and 44. The syndicate held one of two tickets to clinch the top prize.

TheEuroMillions jackpot for that draw - €138 million - was won by a single ticket in the UK and remained unclaimed for nine days. When the winner did come forward, they chose to remain anonymous.

Second EuroMillions Prize in Two Years

The syndicate travelled to Dublin on Wednesday to collect their six-figure sum, each member receiving €55,000. The claim comes nearly two years to the day that a syndicate of 20 from the same company won a EuroMillions prize of €369,000. One syndicate member had this to say of the unlikely circumstance:

“Our colleagues’ big win in 2017 certainly spurred us on to set up this syndicate and we’re delighted to win it as a group so soon after the last big win. It’s just unbelievable that there could be two winning syndicates at the same workplace in such a short space of time. Everybody back at Barry’s in Mallow is absolutely buzzing for us all.”

The latest syndicate winners chose to remain anonymous in collecting their prize money, but did indicate the ways in which the prize money would be spent. “There is great excitement among the group who are all planning on splashing out on some holidays or new cars, while others are planning on putting the money towards deposits for new homes,” said one member. “It is such a lovely amount to win together and while it won’t change our lives, €55,000 each will certainly allow us to make a lot of nice changes in our lives.”

EuroMillions and EuroMillions Plus draws occur every Tuesday and Friday evening, with jackpots of up to €190 million on offer in every main draw.
