€130 Million EuroMillions Superdraw Set For Friday 21st September

€130 Million EuroMillions Superdraw Set For Friday 21st September

Last Updated: Thursday 29th July 2021, 14:03 pm

One of the largest EuroMillions jackpots of the year will be put up for grabs this Friday as a special event takes place to offer an extraordinary €130 million. It will be the first Superdraw since April and could create the biggest Irish lottery winner of all time.

How Superdraws Work

Superdraws, also known as Megadraws, only happen every few months. They work in exactly the same way as regular draws, so you purchase your entries at the same price and pick five main numbers plus two Lucky Stars as usual, but there is one significant difference. The size of the jackpot is ramped up to a massive nine-figure amount, regardless of how high it has been in the previous draw.

This week it will soar to €130 million on Friday night even though the top prize for Tuesday’s draw is only worth an estimated €45 million. It doesn't even matter if the jackpot is won tomorrow, as the money for Friday’s top prize has already been set aside.

The EuroMillions Booster Fund receives a small percentage of the prize fund in every regular draw, primarily to ensure that there is always enough money available to pay for the minimum jackpot of €17 million. When the Booster Fund grows to a certain level, the nine participating nations can agree to hold a special event such as a Superdraw or a EuroMillionaires Raffle Draw.

Superdraws Can Create New Records

The Superdraw jackpot does not have to be won on the night. If no ticket matches all seven winning numbers, the top prize will roll over and an even larger amount will be offered in the following draw.

Superdraws have helped to produce some of the largest prizes ever seen on EuroMillions. This time a year ago, the prize kept growing after a Superdraw until it reached its jackpot cap of €190 million. A lucky ticket holder from Spain ended up winning the lot on Friday 6th October 2017.

No Irish player has ever won a Superdraw jackpot on the night of the draw, but a ticket holder from Ireland did share a prize of €187 million with a Belgian participant on 25th June 2013 following a Megadraw earlier in the month. If there is a single Irish winner of Friday’s top prize, they will eclipse Dolores McNamara’s record for the country’s biggest win. McNamara pocketed €115.4 million back in July 2005.

Go to the Superdraws page for more information about the history of these special events and how they work, and then make sure to take part for your chance to win up to €130 million.
