A Cork resident became a millionaire overnight on New Year’s Eve thanks to the Irish National Lottery’s Christmas Millionaire Raffle.
We all of us have good intentions going into a new year, but when you’ve just had €1 million dropped into your bank account, some of those aspirations suddenly become a lot more realistic.
The Irish National Lottery’s Christmas Millionaire Raffle is always a hugely popular draw. Offering up a slew of big cash prizes, all of which must be won, it is steadily becoming something of a year-end tradition for Lotto players in Ireland, and generates a tremendous amount of excitement.
Prizes for the Christmas Millionaire Raffle range from €500 all the way up to the jackpot of €1 million. More than 3,000 people picked up prizes in the lower tiers, but the grand prize went to a player from Cork, who snagged the top prize with ticket number 179740. The identity of the jackpot winner has not yet — and may not ever — be confirmed, but it is reported that the winning ticket was purchased from the Topaz Service Station on Lower Tivoli Road on December 21.
Other big winners in the popular raffle include one Donegal player who snagged €250,000, and four winners of €100,000 - two from Dublin and one each from Westmeath and Kerry.
There may be another 12 months to go until the next Christmas Millionaire Raffle, but with tomorrow night’s Irish Lotto double-rollover jackpot being worth an estimated €3 million, and the jackpot for tonight’s EuroMillions draw standing at approximately €25 million, there’s still plenty to play for!
