Last night, the third-biggest Irish Lotto jackpot ever was won, making one lucky winner €17,000,000 better off. The winner now has 90 days in which to claim their prize, but in the meantime, what do we know?
Record Winners
The €17,000,000 winner has landed themselves a place as the third-biggest Irish Lotto winner of all time, just beating the previous record of €16.7 million, won in 2010.
Out of interest, the second-biggest prize was €18.9 million, won in Co Carlow in 2008, and the record holder remains the 2022 winner of an incredible €19 million jackpot. For this draw, the National Lottery ended up changing the rules as the jackpot had been at the €19 million cap for over three months - now, the jackpot will only spend five draws at the cap before a guaranteed Will Be Won draw takes place.
What Happens Next?
Irish Lotto prize-winners have 90 days from the date of the draw to come forward and claim their winnings, otherwise the ticket will expire, and the funds will be redistributed to good causes. If nobody comes forward, the Irish National Lottery typically releases more details over time, such as the county, town, and the specific shop that ticket was purchased in.
