Irish Player Wins Record-Breaking €175 Million EuroMillions Jackpot

Irish Player Wins Record-Breaking €175 Million EuroMillions Jackpot

Last Updated: Tuesday 27th September 2022, 09:26 am

One ticket holder in Ireland is €175 million richer after winning the jackpot in the EuroMillions draw on Tuesday 19th February. It is by far the biggest ever lottery prize won in Ireland, beating the previous record, which stood since 2005, by €60 million.

Record Win In Ireland

That player was the only one from all participating countries to match five numbers and both Lucky Stars in Tuesday’s draw, landing them one of the biggest EuroMillions prizes ever seen.

Speaking after the results of the draw were announced, Irish National Lottery CEO Dermot Griffin said it was an “incredible win for an Irish EuroMillions player and a record win for the National Lottery”.

“Whilst this is a massive win”, he added, “it can come as a shock to a player and we advise them to stay calm, get good independent legal and financial advice and contact us as soon as they can.”

He also advised all players to check their tickets and said that the winner should sign the back of the ticket and keep it in a safe place.

Details Yet to Be Revealed

Since Griffin spoke to the press, the jackpot winner has made contact with the National Lottery and is being guided through the claims process. It has also been revealed that the winning ticket was bought from Reilly's Daybreak in The Naul, Co Dublin. Owner Les Reilly said: "I'm over the moon and can't believe it."

No details about the winner have been released, but they will have the choice to go public or remain anonymous, so it may be that no further information about them is disclosed. It is unclear whether the winning ticket belongs to an individual or a syndicate.

It took a Superdraw and several rollovers for the jackpot to reach €175 million. It is the 14th jackpot won in Ireland and the biggest ever claimed there, breaking the 14-year record held by former cleaning lady Dolores McNamara. She hit the headlines in July 2005 when she won a jackpot worth €115 million, one of the biggest EuroMillions prizes ever seen at the time.

The winning numbers from Tuesday’s draw were 1, 8, 18, 19, and 39, with Lucky Stars 7 and 9. There were over 80,000 winners in Ireland in total, including the lucky jackpot winner, and 10 Ireland Only Raffle codes were also drawn. The jackpot has now reset to €17 million for the next draw on Friday 22nd February.
