Irish Lotto Player in Co. Wicklow Wins €11 Million Jackpot

Irish Lotto Player in Co. Wicklow Wins €11 Million Jackpot

Last Updated: Thursday 29th July 2021, 14:03 pm

A single ticket holder has won the biggest Irish Lotto jackpot for more than two years, snapping up more than €11 million in the draw on Wednesday 21st August. The winning ticket was sold in Co. Wicklow and the wait now begins for the lucky player to come forward and claim their prize.

Winning Irish Lotto Numbers

The numbers for Wednesday’s big draw were 10,13, 23, 24, 25 and 44, with a Bonus Ball of 12. There were winners in all eight prize tiers on an exciting evening, but only one player matched all six main numbers to ensure they pocketed the jackpot all for themselves, for a total payout of €11,225,280.

The Irish National Lottery did not reveal the location where the winning entry was sold straight away, but it was later announced that the ticket was bought in Co Wicklow. A spokesman said “With a jackpot win of this amount, it is important that we take some time to inform the winning retailer and of course to give the winning ticket holder the time and space they need to let this truly life-changing win sink in."

The winner will have to claim their prize within 90 days of the draw, giving them until 19th November to make contact with lottery officials. They will have to go to lottery headquarters on Abbey Street Lower in Dublin to receive their money. Go to the page on Claiming Prizes for more information.

Some winners choose to come forward straight away, while others prefer to take a bit of time to let the news sink in or seek financial advice. It is also common for some players to only check their tickets from time to time rather than after every single draw.

Another decision facing the winner is whether to go public or stay anonymous. Recent winners have commonly opted to stay private but have still shared their stories about what they would do with the money. The man who won €4 million on Saturday 8th June stayed anonymous and said that he had walked the streets of Galway the night after the draw because he felt so restless.

That was the last time the jackpot was won and it preceded a run of 20 rollovers before Wednesday’s draw. The top prize grew steadily over those two months, becoming the largest to be seen on the game since two players split €12 million in May 2017.

€18.9 Million Record Remains Intact

The jackpot ended up falling some way short of the record for the biggest of all time, which was set back in June 2008. The record belongs to a syndicate of 16 co-workers from Co Carlow, who shared more than €18 million.

A memorable year for Irish lottery players in 2019 has also seen a new record set for the largest EuroMillions jackpot ever won in the country. A family from Co Dublin was able to celebrate winning €175 million back in February, describing the moment as a ‘dream come true’.

EuroMillions is back up to €100 million ahead of the next draw on Friday evening, while the Irish Lotto jackpot will reset to €2 million.
