Cork Syndicate Finally Claim €8.3 Million Irish Lotto Jackpot

Last Updated: Tuesday 4th September 2018, 13:03 pm

A syndicate of Irish Lotto players from Co. Cork have finally come forward to collect their €8.3 million jackpot, almost a month after the draw took place. The lucky group said they had waited because they wanted to take financial advice, as they are determined not to let the money go to their heads.

The six main numbers drawn on Saturday 4th August were 3, 4, 5, 19, 26 and 43. It was quickly announced that a single Quick Pick winning ticket - bought at Dunnes Stores in Bishopstown - had matched the full winning line, but the money remained unclaimed until Monday.

It turned out to be a syndicate which snapped up the massive prize, and they have decided to keep their identities private as they look forward to a bright future. They found out about the success straight away, but initially found it difficult to process the information.

Winning Feeling ‘So Surreal’

One of the group members recalled: “On the Sunday morning after the draw we all got the same message to say we had won the Lotto. The initial responses in the group were to ask, ‘oh yeah – how much’. We genuinely thought we had won a couple of euro each and instead, we had landed a jackpot worth over €8 million.

“We really didn’t believe any of it until we heard on the news that the winning ticket was sold in the locality, it was so just so surreal,” said one of the syndicate members.

Everyone in the syndicate is now excitedly making plans for how they might want to use the money, and they believe the thinking time they have given themselves over the last month will stand them in good stead.

Carefully Consider Your Options

“We met up straight away and decided to carefully take our time and get legal and financial advice to be properly prepared for when our share of the €8 million hit our bank accounts,” said one of the group. “We’re glad that we took the time to claim the prize because we’ve had four weeks to carefully consider how the money will help us way into the future.

“We’re obviously not going to lose the run of ourselves but I know those within the group with mortgages and loans will be paying those off first while others are planning nice holidays and new cars. It’s all very exciting and new to us!”

The Irish Lotto jackpot for the next draw on Wednesday currently stands at €2.5 million, while you can also win €1 million in Lotto Plus 1 after a series of changes were brought in last week. Go to any authorised retailer or take part online if you want to try and win one of this week’s great prizes.
