A sense of excitement has spread throughout a small community in Co Cork after a single ticket bought in the village of Crosshaven netted a jackpot of €5.6 million in Saturday’s Irish Lotto draw. The top prize had previously been rolling over since an online player won €7.1 million on Wednesday 21st February.

Jackpot Winner

The hunt is now on for Saturday’s jackpot winner, and the Irish National Lottery has announced that the all-important ticket was a Quick Pick sold at Bernard Lynch’s Centra in Crosshaven. Lynch, currently away on a family break in Lanzarote, said: “We have a very close-knit community in Crosshaven so we know our customers very well.

“The majority are local but the town is a beautiful maritime sailing port which attracts a lot of visitors. Whoever the winner is, we are absolutely delighted for them and we wish them every bit of luck. If the winner happens to be one of our neighbours or friends, it’ll be all the sweeter.”

Store manager Conor Middleton added that he had no idea who the winner might be, but said that customers had been flocking to the store since the news broke. He recalled: “We were very busy here on Saturday, and there were lots of visitors in town, and lots of extra people playing the Lotto, so it really could have been anybody. We are hoping it’s a local but as long as it brings them happiness, then good luck to them.”

What Happens Now?

The winner now has 90 days to come forward and claim their prize. It is advised that they sign the back of their ticket until they are ready to get in touch with National Lottery officials and arrange to visit the headquarters in Dublin. The lucky player will then have to decide whether they wish to remain anonymous or opt for publicity.

The jackpot, meanwhile, will go back to €2 million for the next draw on Wednesday night.
