Cork Millionaire Hasn't Told His Family

An Irish Lotto player from Cork has revealed that his loved ones still do not know that he won €1 million a month ago. He did not realise how much his own ticket was worth until several weeks after the draw, but has still decided to keep his family in the dark for now.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, matched all six main numbers in the Lotto Plus 1 draw on Wednesday 24th October. He had bought his Quick Pick ticket from the Costcutters Store at the N20 Mallow Plaza on the Limerick Road in Mallow, but was in no rush to check the results.
Having finally discovered that he was the winner of the top prize, he gave himself a few more days before coming forward to claim the money this week. However, he still does not feel as though he has fully processed what has happened and will wait until he does before he shares the news.
“I hadn’t a clue that I had the winning ticket until last week," he said. “I heard that there was a win in Cork last month but it just didn’t register that it could be me. Somebody mentioned it in passing last week and it suddenly dawned on me to check my ticket. It was a huge shock to the system to realise I had just become a millionaire.
“To be honest, I haven’t fully comprehended how this win will change my life. I am very close to my family and it is very difficult to keep a life-changing win like this from loved ones but I am looking forward to telling them the news when it has fully sank in.”
Long-Term Plans
Speaking about what he might do with his new seven-figure fortune, the winner revealed that he had been giving it a lot of thought and wanted to make sure that it would stand his family in good stead for years to come.
“I am already making long-term plans for my winnings so I might have a few nice surprises up my sleeve for them very soon,” he explained.
The Lotto Plus 1 jackpot was only increased to €1 million at the start of September, having previously been worth €500,000. Along with Lotto Plus 2 and the Lotto Plus Raffle, these supplementary games give you extra chances of winning if you opt in when you play Lotto.
