Last Updated: Tuesday 27th September 2022, 12:12 pm

A man from Cork has vowed to treat his family after landing a EuroMillions Plus prize of €500,000. The lucky winner, who has opted to remain anonymous, correctly matched the numbers 1, 14, 20, 24 and 44 in the draw on Tuesday 24th October and now plans to reward his children with a dream trip to Disneyland Paris.

Accompanied by his wife, the Cork resident arrived at National Lottery headquarters to collect his prize and explained to officials how his family had been getting by on a shoestring budget for years: "Month to month things have been tight and we’re always looking at where we can save money and even look to do overtime where I can,” he said.

Plans for the Future

The man, who purchased his winning entry from O'Reilly's Maxol Service Station on Watercourse Road in Blackpool, was understandably delighted with the win and has already started dreaming of how his newfound fortune will help to transform his family’s lives: "This win is going to allow us to plan for all of our futures and I can’t say how grateful we are to have won."

The chipper Corkonian has already won favour with his children by promising them a trip to Disneyland Paris. Revealing his plans to lottery officials, he said: "Our eldest has been asking us for years can we go to Disneyland so we’re going to do that next year." he smiled.

Despite splashing out on a family holiday, the man remained adamant that the money would be spent on ‘a lot of sensible things’, with funds set aside to pay off the mortgage and invest in his children’s education.

Breaking the News

Still in a state of delirium, the EuroMillions Plus winner also told of how he came around to breaking the news to his partner. Following a call to the National Lottery, the man was forced to speak with his wife: “I told the kids to go out and play and asked my wife to sit down,” he recounted. "Immediately she thought that I had lost my job so I had to reel her in for a minute and then just told her we’d won half a million."

With ecstasy coursing through them, the couple are still trying to process the win: "A few days have now passed and both of us are awake every night talking about this win,” the man smiled, before adding: “I’m still waiting for someone to wake me up from this dream.”
