Easygoing Farmer Collects EuroMillions Plus Jackpot at the Last Minute

Last Updated: Tuesday 27th September 2022, 12:50 pm

An easygoing farmer from Co. Clare has come forward to claim a EuroMillions Plus jackpot worth €500,000 just seven days before the 90-day collection deadline. The lucky ticket holder, who correctly matched the numbers 5, 9 19, 27 and 30 in the draw on Tuesday 13th June, stored the winning ticket in his jacket pocket before making contact with National Lottery officials.

The lucky lottery labourer had purchased his winning entry from Paul Hogan’s Service Station on Gort Road in Ennis on the day of the draw, but left the ticket stuffed away in his coat. The farmer, who has opted to remain anonymous, told National Lottery officials: “I knew straight away that I had won but I wanted to keep my head down and let the excitement die down before collecting it.”

In no rush to pocket the sizeable six-figure sum, the winner patiently waited before finally revealing himself to lottery bosses in Dublin: “The ticket’s been in my jacket pocket for the past three months, I haven’t let it out of my sight since the draw,” he calmly explained. However, it was an alert by the local media that ultimately made the fortuitous farmer come out of hiding: “I was in no hurry to collect my cheque and I considered leaving it until the last day until I heard the local radio station [Clare FM] urging people to check their tickets.”

With the €500,000 sum safely in his clutches, the farmer was quizzed on how he would be spending his newfound windfall: “We’ll enjoy the week with a few celebratory drinks,” he smiled. However, much like his laid-back approach to prize collection, the landowner was in no rush to spend his winnings: “It’s a huge amount of money to win and I have no real plan for it. I might look at upgrading some of the farm machinery in the next few weeks but that’ll be it for the time being,” he said.

How long would you be able to wait before collecting a EuroMillions prize? If you fancy finding out, why not take part in tonight’s draw, when the jackpot will be a truly tempting €17 million?
