Christmas Miracle as Unemployed Dublin Dad Wins EuroMillions Plus Jackpot

Last Updated: Thursday 22nd December 2016, 09:45 am

Christmas came early for one Dublin dad as he scooped a EuroMillions Plus jackpot worth €500,000. The man, who had recently lost his job, won the six-figure prize on Friday 17th December in what he called a “Christmas miracle’.

Upon collecting his sizeable sum from National Lottery headquarters in the nation’s capital, the man, who has opted to remain anonymous, was all the more thankful for the win given his circumstances, revealing that it couldn’t have come at a better time. "I recently lost my job so we have been under a lot of pressure financially with Christmas fast approaching,” the relieved winner told lottery officials. "We can now enjoy the holidays with the peace of mind that we don’t have to worry about our bills for a while yet."

The dad bought his Quick Pick ticket from the Spar Waterville shop in Blanchardstown on the day of the draw, never suspecting that his financial worries would soon be a thing of the past. "I checked my ticket as usual on a ticket scanner in a shop on Monday morning” said the man. “A message flashed up telling me to contact the National Lottery right away. I checked again at the counter and the assistant whispered to me that I had won a half million euro.” Understandably overjoyed, the man described how he suddenly felt “every ounce of anxiousness and worry’ leave his body. “It was an indescribable feeling,” he smiled.

The delighted Dubliner now plans to take some time out over the festive period in order to fully come to terms with his well-timed windfall. "Christmas is all about family. We are going to enjoy the next couple of days and celebrate together before we start thinking about our long term plans,” he explained. “In the New Year, I would love to start my own business and work for myself and my family. I now have the financial freedom to do that but I need to discuss it with my wife first," he joshed.

If you would like to celebrate this Yuletide with a festive EuroMillions prize of your own, tickets for Friday’s draw are available to purchase online or from any authorised retailer. The jackpot ahead of the final draw before Christmas is a guaranteed €17 million, a sum that would certainly see any celebrations significantly improved. And don’t forget to pick up your EuroMillions Plus tickets for an additional chance to win big. Best of luck!
