Irish Lotto Plus 1 Winner ‘Forgot’ about Ticket for Two Months

Last Updated: Thursday 29th July 2021, 15:07 pm

A lucky player from Co Cork has admitted that he had completely forgotten about his Irish Lotto ticket after finally coming forward almost two months later to collect his winnings. The young man, who has decided not to reveal his identity, scooped €500,000 on Irish Lotto Plus 1 after landing the top prize on Saturday 12th September.

However, he did not check his ticket straight after the draw and it was not until much later that he discovered his incredible good fortune. He told UTV Ireland: “I had absolutely no idea that I had won anything, let alone €500,000! I had completely forgotten that I had even bought a Lotto ticket that weekend, and only found it on a countertop a couple of weeks ago.”

He added: “I checked it online and then sat in stunned silence, checking and rechecking the ticket, for a very, very long time. I am just so relieved that the ticket wasn’t thrown out by mistake.”

The man, whose success came just days after the Irish Lotto Plus 1 top prize was increased from €350,000 to €500,000 ahead of the draw on 5th September, revealed that he would love to travel more and possibly set up his own business, although for the moment he is still coming to terms with the shock of his new-found wealth.

There will be another chance for ticketholders to win big in tonight’s draw, when the jackpot will be €3.5 million after three straight rollovers and there will be fabulous prizes on offer as always in Irish Lotto Plus 1, Irish Lotto Plus 2 and the Lotto Plus Raffle.
